The Sky view shows the satellites that are visible in the sky from your location on Earth. You can swipe the screen to center different parts of the sky. You can pinch the screen to zoom in or out.
Sky view shows the position, name, and orbit of your selected satellite in the sky. You can tap a different satellite in the Sky view to select it. Your selected satellite's orbit is shown as a green line wrapping around the sky. As the Earth turns, the satellite's orbit will pass over your head!
Sky view shows the horizon, and the ground under your feet, as a panoramic view around a lake. The cardinal directions along the horizon are marked. At night, the lake becomes translucent, so you can see the stars, planets, and satellites that are orbiting "under your feet", over the other side of the world. You can turn off daylight to make the lake permanently translucent, or remove the lake horizon panorama completely, in Orbitrack's Settings view.
Orbitrack uses your device's GPS and/or Wi-Fi location services to determine your latitude and longitude. If Orbitrack is not correctly predicting satellite positions, make sure location services for Orbitrack are turned on in your phone's system Settings. Alternately, you can set your location manually by entering a latitude/longitude, or by choosing from a list of cities, in the Settings.
Orbitrack can show you the sky in same the direction that you're holding your device. Activate AR mode by tilting your device upward. As you move the device around, the view on the sky chart follows your motion, and you can identify satellites by holding your phone up next to them. Touch any part of the sky chart to turn the AR mode off.
You can also Augmented Reality to find satellites in the sky. To do this, first tilt your phone up to turn on the compass. Then tap Search, and enter the name of the satellite you want to find. When the Info view appears, tap the Locate button at the bottom of view. An arrow appears, leading you toward the satellite in the sky. Follow the arrow with your phone to center the satellite on the screen. When centered, the arrow disappears, and your phone will be pointing toward the satellite in the sky.
You can animate the view to see how satellites move across the sky as time flows. To do this, tap the Time button in the toolbar. To keep your satellite centered in the sky as it moves, tap the Center button. See the Time and Center Help sections for more information.
By default, Sky view show all satellites brighter than magnitude 6.0 in the categories you have chosen to show. You can select different satellite categories to show, or change the magnitude limit, in the Settings. If you only want to show your selected satellite in Sky view, turn on the Show Selected Satellite Only option for Sky view in the Settings.
You can select different groups or categories of satellites to show, using the Satellites Shown option in the Settings. You can also set a magnitude limit which hides satellites that are too faint to see. The default magnitude limit for Sky view is 6.0 - about the faintest stars that unaided human eyes can see in clear, dark skies. With the magnitude limit slider in the Settings for Sky View, you can make this limit smaller (brighter, for more light-polluted skies), or bigger (darker; for example, if you have binoculars.) You can make the magnitude limit unlimited, to show all satellites in the Sky view regardless of how faint they are.
The status bar at the top of the screen displays the current location and date/time that Orbitrack is using to display the sky view.
After you tap on a satellite, the status bar shows the satellite's name, magnitude, and constellation for a few seconds. You can get this information back by tapping the status bar again. You can still get more detailed information on the satellite by tapping the Info button in the toolbar.
